Who We Are
The Bay Area Artists' Association is a community of visual artists and art patrons sharing a common aspiration: supporting and encouraging artists and contributing to our communities through our monthly meetings (which are open to the public) and selected exhibitions and shows at local venues including Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Eden Hall, Southern Coos Hospital and Health Center, juried exhibits at the Events Center in Florence, the Coos County Fair, South Slough in Charleston, Evergreen Court, Pacific Park Medical Center, Oregon Coast School of Arts and an annual open exhibit at the Pony Village Mall.
Our members work in many different mediums and materials including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, pen and ink drawings, scratchboard, collage, digital, pottery, sculpture, photography, print making, textiles and wood working (and perhaps some we don’t even know about yet)
We maintain a close relationship with the Coos Art Museum, with many shared projects and events that are available to members. We have a “Featured Artist” wall at the Coos Art Museum where selected members can show their work on a wall in the museum reserved for BAAA.
Each year during the Coos Art Museum “Visions” exhibit of high school student’s work, BAAA selects one artist for an “Up and Comer” award that includes a one year BAAA family membership, a one year family membership to the Coos Art Museum and a cash award for art supplies. One year a student was also sponsored for a second term at Southwestern Oregon Community College.
You just might find a group of artists on sunny days painting outside at Mingus Park or other scenic areas in the south coast region. Additional community involvement has included the Blackberry Arts Festival, “Art In The Park” at Shore Acres Park, and one year at Christmastime we decorated a tree for the “Celebration of the Lights” at Shore Acres Holiday Lights.
