Joseph Thompson

Joseph Thompson is a landscape oil painter based in Coos Bay, Oregon. He is active in the local arts community through the Bay Area Artists Association and its Plein Air group. 

Inspiration 

His drive to paint comes from a love of natural beauty and its ability to draw us beyond ourselves. He is especially inspired by the European Impressionist and the Plein Air painters of the American West, such as Edgar Payne. Their ability to show light across land, water and sky is a constant guidepost. 

Seascape Series 

These seascapes come from plein air sessions along the southern Oregon coast. The series moves from iconic landmarks to quieter, less-traveled stops along the Cape Arago Highway, highlighting the coastline’s variety and rugged character.
